Summary: The text examines the establishment of the Bulgarian Tourist Association as part of the modernization processes at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The company was founded by Bulgarians who had received their education abroad and, returning to their homeland, brought with them foreign experience. Thus, the creation of organized Bulgarian tourism could be regarded as part of the modernization of Bulgarian society during the period under consideration.
