Summary: The article presents new evidence for the construction of the eastern residential part, the main gate and the chapels of the Monastery of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Kapinovo. The reconstruction and enlargement of the monastery started in 1855 and ended in 1864. The evidence was found in a Register notebook that was kept in the period from the 23 September 1855 until 20 June 1865, when the repair works were completed and all donations from persons and professional guilds received. New information concerning the donors’ names and status was retrieved from this document. The list of donors includes the names of hadji Nikoly Minchev from Tarnovo and Evtimii Popovich from Arbanasi; professional guilds from Tarnovo, as for instance the guild of the grocery owners: the villages of Bebrovo, Tserova Koria, Kovanlak; clergymen and enlightened people like, for example, the brothers Teodosii and Kesarii Horozovi from Elena; former students from the monastery school like hadji Stoyan and Dobri Panovs. The charitable activity for the Orthodox Church shows that Bulgarians had started to recognize the importance of the Church and charity in maintaining national identity. The noble causes indicate that progressive ideas had become a significant part of their lives.
