Summary: The Balkan town of Karlovo was one of the most important strongholds of the Bulgarian people during the National Revival period. The beautiful town gave to Bulgaria a whole galaxy of great personalities, revolutionaries, cultural, economic, political and public figures who actively participated in the development and maturation of the Bulgarian nation. In the 19th century, Karlovo experienced a rapid economic, cultural, educational and demographic development. Educational and cultural spheres developed rapidly in the nineteenth century Karlovo, establishing firm traditions. In spite of all this, the beginning of the periodicals in Karlovo was actually set far after the Liberation – in 1902. This article examines the reasons for the late start of the most popular mass media of the time. What was the path of the development of the Karlovo newspapers and whether and why was it accompanied by difficulties and interruptions?
