Summary: After the 1944 coup the new regime swiftly began to construct a system for social degradation, and in the not-too-distant future – for the liquidation of the “former” pre-revolutionary elites. Several hundred thousand of their representatives were pushed, literally and figuratively, into a place that, using Stefan Bochev’s subtitle, we can call “Concentration Camp: Bulgaria”. The current article attempts to substantiate the trauma of deportation. To many this was worse even than the time at the labour camp, known for its severe regime.
